Shorter musings (my Twitter feed)

An interesting photo project from @gazeta_uz on how #Uzbekistan lived between the 2 #COVID19 lockdowns.
Starting from June 1, a photographer Alexey Tudakov spent 4 weeks traveling through 12 provinces & here’s the result:

Had the pleasure of joining @WorldBankECA VP Anna Bjerde and Deputy PM of #Uzbekistan Djamshid Kuchkarov to discuss the Government’s proactive response to #COVID19 to save lives and reduce the social and economic costs.

The one (and possibly only thing) I will not miss about Tashkent when I leave: having to make a life choice between running the microwave and turning on the bathroom light.

#DiscoverUndiscoveredUzbekistan:
Raised from ruins #Tashkent of 70s after devastating earthquake. Multinat'l&secular city w/muezzin chanting the adhan, insatiable tourists among cheerful kids, 1st ever subway in #CA w/brutal architecture above&more magnetic scenes of those times.

Listening to Citizens of #Uzbekistan (L2C) household survey @whseitz @WorldBank show the poverty level ($3.2 per person per day) rose to 8.7-10% after the start of the #COVIDー19 pandemic. At least another 448 thousand people may be below the poverty line.

It’s nothing short of amazing to see the leap @MFATNZ has made on the @IATI_aid rankings for 2020. This is a huge deal and the people working on it are passionate aid data transparency geeks who deserve an enormous pat on their backs.
